Child & Youth Psychotherapy

Our Clinicians provide a safe and welcoming environment to assist children and youth with a range of mental health challenges, including emotional regulation, behavioral support, cognitive development, social skills, and trauma processing. Psychotherapy for children and youth can look quite different than psychotherapy for adults. However, the goals and benefits are still the same. 

When treating children and youth, psychotherapy techniques are adapted to suit the development stage, cognitive ability, and communication skills of each child.  While adults come to a psychotherapy session generally prepared to discuss difficult topics, feelings, or memories, children are not as forthcoming, prepared, or focused. This is why it is important to meet our young clients where they are. 

Our clinical team may utilize a play therapy approach that helps to build trust and create ease and comfort, which will allow children and youth to feel safe when bringing up thoughts, topics, or feelings that may be difficult for them.  It is important to note that parents or guardians may or may not play an active role depending on the situation and dynamics.
